Are you ready for the weekend? We have been scouring the internet looking for ideas of things you can do with your family outdoors or indoors, on or off line. We are starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel with the shutdown/quarantine. In fact, we even have a couple of IRL (in real life) events in our post this week!!! Are you as excited about that as we are?!?!? While physical distancing is still in place, here are some GREAT ideas of things you can do this weekend in the River Valley and beyond! Let us know your favorites! In fact, we’d LOVE to see pictures of you and your family actually doing some of these things in real life! Post them on over on our Facebook page.

Jigsaw Puzzles

Who doesn’t like putting together a good jigsaw puzzle (of course, my brain sees that the yard outside the window needs mowing!). But, building a puzzle by yourself, or together with your family, can be a great, fun activity! You can build one in real life, or go online to Jigsaw Planet, and choose from hundreds of puzzles you can build absolutely free!

Start a Journal or a Blog

Do you like to write? or take pictures? or create recipes? or crafts? Do you have a hobby, interest or message you would like to share? There might never be a better time than now to release your creativity to the world! Let’s face it, so many people are at home glued to their computer and smart phone screens right now. Maybe it’s time to CREATE some content for the world wide web instead of just CONSUME it! You could do some creative writing, or create a photo blog, or a video blog, or an online recipe collection… the opportunities are endless! And, you can do it all for free! Here are a few websites where you can get started.

  • WordPress.com

  • weebly.com

  • wix.com

  • blogger.com

And if you DO start your own blog, we want to know about it! We may even feature you in one of our future blogs or Facebook posts!

DIY Day Spa

With physical distancing, spas and beauty salons were some of the first services cut… no matter HOW essential they may be! So, if you’re feeling a little frazzled and scraggly, why not plan a DIY Day Spa this weekend? We’ve got you covered from head-to-toe!

Start off with some relaxing music, some candles and an essential oil diffuser if you have one.

Hair Mask

Mix 1 banana, 1 Tablespoon oil (olive, coconut, almond or argon), add a dash of flour if it’s too thin. Massage this into your hair from roots to ends and leave on for 30 minutes.

Charcoal Activated Face Mask

Mix 1/3 cup melted coconut oil, 2 Tablespoons activated charcoal powder, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda and a drop of your favorite essential oil. Apply to your face with your fingertips or a brush and leave it for 20 minutes before rinsing clean with water.

Fruit and Herb Infused Water

Add to 5 cups of water, 1 cup of ice cubes (optional), 1/2 cup of sliced strawberries, 5 large fresh basil leaves, torn, and 1 lemon thinly sliced. Let sit for 4 hours or more before drinking. You can find some other delicious recipes on Culinary Hill.

And now for some local events!!!
