GIRL SCOUTS LOVE STATE PARKS 2023: “WE ♡ TREES" (SELF-GUIDED PROGRAMS)

Village Creek State Park
201 County Road 754, Wynne

Meeting Place: Visitor Center

Not sure you are able to participate in a scheduled program? Need something more flexible and self-paced? Come to the visitor venter Friday, September 8th – Sunday, September 10th between the hours of 8 a.m. -5 p.m. to check out one or more of our five self-guided programs about trees! All materials needed for each program will be provided. Only one program can be checked out at a time. This is a free family-friendly event that requires no registration.  #GSLSP2023

Programs available:

·       DiversiTREE – The trees you find at Village Creek State Park are as diverse as the Girl Scouts and other guest that visit the park. Tune in to the trees in a scavenger hunt for a diversity of shapes along the Arboretum trail. This activity works towards the Daisy Math in Nature 1 badge.

·        Remembering Big Ben: A Self-Guided Hike – We attach meaning and stories to names. For this activity, you will be hiking the Big Ben trail and you will learn the stories behind the name Ben and how that name connects to your name and the power your actions have in our parks. This hike works towards the Daisy Eco Learner, Cadette Eco Trekker, and part 4 of the Cadette Trees badges.

·       Make Like a Tree and Leaf – Village Creek State Park is home to many trees that are unique to Arkansas. Go on a scavenger hunt to find these special trees and use their fallen leaves to create the furry and feathery critters that call Village Creek State Park their home. This activity works towards the Outdoor Art Maker badge.

·       Leaf Runner – Compete with friends to learn the names of the trees in Village Creek State Park. Will your team run to the right leaf and win the game? This activity fulfills part 1 of the Cadette Trees badge. (Leaf cards can also be used as a memory game for a lower energy activity.)

·       Where Trees Lead Us – A lone tree in the park can be a scout’s greatest tool. Measure and graph the leaves of trees and use your data to determine direction. This activity completes part 2 of the Cadette Trees badge.
