“Have a Seat” Exhibition by Clay Palmer
Batesville Area Arts Council
The Batesville Area Arts Council is pleased to present "Have a Seat," an exhibition by Clay Palmer, at the BAAC Gallery on Main (226 E Main St) August 15 – September 30, 2023. Palmer, who currently resides in Trenton, TN, won first place at BAAC’s 2022 National Juried Exhibition. BAAC will hold a closing reception on Friday, September 29, from 5 - 7 p.m. with a brief artist talk at 6 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public.
Palmer’s work examines contemporary Southern life through genre scenes that address the anxiety of living in a period of history ravaged by ideological, economic, and socio-political friction. His recent works are directly related to the anxieties of his newfound role as a father. “As I navigate this unfamiliar territory, I find myself meditating on my own paternal relationships, reflecting on my childhood, and analyzing my many shortcomings to gain some insight into the everyday challenges and joys that becoming a new parent imparts.”
Reception:
Friday, September 29, 5 -7 p.m.
Members Only Happy Hour: 4 - 5 p.m.
This exhibition is free and open to the public during BAAC’s regular gallery hours, Tuesday – Friday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Get Down Downtown 2023 ft. David Lee Murphy
Beautiful Historic Downtown Searcy
Get Down Downtown is a FREE, annual two-day, family-friendly outdoor festival featuring live music, vendors, games, rides and many more activities hosted by Main Street Searcy. The festival kicks off at 6 p.m. on Friday night, September 29, and starts again at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 30.
The two-day festival has added new events and attractions this year, and features live music, vendors and family-friendly activities. Grab a lawn chair or quilt. It’s going to be a great event!
Headlining the festival is David Lee Murphy performing on the First Security Bank Stage on Saturday at 8 p.m. David Lee Murphy is best recognized by his massive hit single “Dust On The Bottle”. But he is also known as one of Country Music’s best songwriters. He has written songs for superstar artists like Kenny Chesney, Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Florida Georgia Line, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Brooks & Dunn, Hank Williams, Jr. and others.
As Nashville’s newest bluegrass ambassadors, East Nash Grass comes as a refreshing break- a balance of undeniable hard-driving bluegrass alongside surprisingly introspective songwriting and earnest narration. Featuring a who’s-who of Nashville’s hottest young pickers, the joy and passion these musicians feel towards the genre is infused in every note they play and every word they sing.
One of the most popular Memphis bands ever to hit the party scene, Dr. Zarr’s Amazing Funk Monster has entertained legions of fans throughout the South for more than two decades, having played thousands of shows. From disco infernos to 80s new wave, this group has created one of the most energetic and fun bands you’ll ever see. Entertaining all ages with their lighthearted, fun-filled mood, Dr. Zarr’s Amazing Funk Monster dresses up in crazy clothes and brings music to life when they take the stage.
The Unity Health Kid Zone will be open from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 30. Children can enjoy lawn games, face painting, petting zoo, inflatable jumpers, carnival games and more. Carnival games cost 25 cents and pony rides $5. Brian Kinder and Ms. Terri are performing in the Unity Health Kid Zone at 1 p.m., along with other performances throughout the day.
Train rides and the Searcy Fire Department firefighter combat challenge will be happening throughout the festival. Along with Cirque Adventure performances on Saturday, September 30 at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. in the Spring Street parking lot. A fire breather will also be in the Spring Street parking lot at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.
The Funnel Cake 5K will start at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, on the corner of Spring and Arch Streets. Everyone who finishes the 5K will receive a voucher for a free funnel cake at the festival. Registration is $35 until Sept. 23, and $40 the day of the run. There’s also the Cotton Candy Classic, a one-mile option that is $25/$30 and receives a cotton candy voucher.
