Join a park interpreter for a big, 5-mile hike on Mount Magazine! Hiking in some of the same steps of people dating as far back as the 1800s, participants will experience the pure mountain air, the breathtaking views and spectacular nature that has drawn everyone from early settlers, farmers, entrepreneurs and countless tourists to Mount Magazine. This hike will start at the North Rim trailhead by the visitor center, continue on Mossback Ridge Trail, and conclude with the Greenfield Trail which will return to the visitor center. Seasonally appropriate attire, drinking water, sturdy hiking shoes, insect repellent, and sunscreen (although this hike is very shaded), are all highly recommended for this moderate-strenuous, 5-mile, hike.

During this kayak tour we will paddle to various areas of interest around the lake and stop for discussion at a few iconic spots. Space is limited, please reserve your spot at the visitor center. This summer, the University of Arkansas is setting up its archeological field school at the J.D. Wilbur Pottery Factory site! On Saturday, July 15, 9 am to 1 pm, we will hold a public day for anyone who wants to learn more about the material history of the site and the methods of excavation employed by Arkansas Archeological Survey archeologists. It will be a chance to observe archeologists onsite as they work on a significant Arkansas dig. ARAS staff and field school students will guide visitors through the process and explain the significance of the dig, including some big discoveries! Lawrence McElroy will also offer historic tours of the site every hour on the half-hour (9:30, 10:30, 11:30, and 12:30).
