Dally's All Species Odyssey

Dally's Ozark Fly Fisher
1200 W Main No. 7, Cotter

IF you want to tackle something a little different, even a little out there It’s time to download your entry form and start planning for the 2023 Dally’s All Species Odyssey, on June 10 and 11.

Size doesn’t matter, yanking scores of stockers doesn’t count. The idea is simple most species wins. Winning the event will take fly fishing skills, knowledge, a surprising amount of stamina and outright cunning. And as many teams in the first two Odyssey events have discovered, a healthy dose of luck will help.

The 24 hour epic will see teams of two fly fishers try to catch as many of our 33 target flyrod species as possible. The most species caught, photographed and released in the time allotted, will win the bragging rights and a share of what last year was over $6500 in prizes.

We are also adding a Friday night reception for all competitors to get together for food and beverages and fellowship with an special group: those taking on the 2023 Odyssey.

The Odyssey will start at midday June 10, and competitors will fish until 8pm. Fishing resumes at 6 am Sunday June 11 and runs until midday. Competitors need to return to Dally’s in Cotter and check in by 12.45pm. The awards ceremony will be held at 1pm.

The All Species Odyssey has grown every year with backing from Orvis, YETI, Sage, RIO Products, Nautilus Reels, TFO, Smith Optics, Simms Fishing, and Potter Block Properties

Cost of the event is $170 per team, with each team member access to the competition app and receive an official competition hat and shirt, and gift bag which in the past have including Yeti mugs, water bottles, flies, leader and tippet, sunscreen and other vendor contributions.

Team prizes for the competition have always included identical prizes for both team members. We also have individual prize drawing for all competitors which have seen many competitors walking away with awesome gear regardless of their catch.

The optional reception on Friday night will cost $30 a team, and RSVPs via the official entry form. The venue will be announced later

The rules if the Odyssey are simple: teams of two fly fishers will compete to see who can amass the most species over, size doesn’t matter. Fishing will only be conducted during daylight hours but fishers can use the closed fishing period to change locations, refuel and plan strategy.

Each species must be photographed, with our unique control item, and submitted to the Odyssey HQ via our tournament app. The images will be used to authenticate species, location and score each team..

In the event of a tie, judges will use our points scoring system, which grades the difficulty of capture of the species to separate the winners.

Wild Muse: Ozarks Nature Poetry

Faulkner County Library
1900 Tyler St, Conway

Join us for a poetry reading!

Several poets from Arkansas and Missouri have come together for an anthology of poetry! Join us and 6 of the authors for an afternoon of poems, food, and fun.

The Poets:
C.D. Albin
Wendy Taylor Carlisle
Paulette Guerin
Phillip Howerton
Gerald Sloan
Amy Wright Vollmar

*The late Mark Spitzer is a contributing author to "Wild Muse". There will be a selection of his works read in his honor as well as recognition from his fellow authors.

More information about the anthology:
"Wild Muse" is a collection of contemporary poetry engaging Ozarks nature and environment. Some topics and themes explored here are nature’s beauty, sense of place, loss of place, environmental diminishment, and human dependence on nature and its sublime indifference to our existence. Combining the best aspects of chapbooks and anthologies, this “chapthology” features extensive selections from the work of nine Ozarks poets—-providing readers a generous introduction to the voice, style, and perspectives of each writer.

All Faulkner County Library events are free and open to the public. Registration is not required. Please email fcl@fcl.org about specific accommodation needs.
