Five judges will score performance and writing on a scale from 7.5 to 9.9.
Lowest and highest scores are dropped; the three remaining scores are averaged.
Two rounds, three if we have a tie so have three original poems ready to perform.
No props, costumes, music... just poet and poem.

ArtChalk Arkansas is a two-day event filled with art, music and crafts of the Central Arkansas community.
The event kicks off on Friday, April 28 with an Opening Night Tailgate Reception at the Razorback Letterman Club at Gate 7 of War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. This 21-and-over event will allow attendees to meet the ArtChalk artists and sponsors and enjoy a silent auction, music, food and refreshments. Registration for this event closes on April 21 at 11:59 p.m.

Kip’s Inflatable Fun Run

Kipley Dow is a precious little boy who was recently diagnosed with juvenile Tay Sachs disease. This disease is a progressive and fatal neurodegenerative brain disorder. Kipley attends 1st grade at Theodore Jones Elementary where his dad, Heath Dow, is the Assistant Principal. His mother, Kelly, teaches keyboarding at Ruth Doyle Middle School.
The life expectancy for this disease is not good, as the disease causes death of the nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Currently, there is no cure or treatment available. Kip’s parents are searching all over and doing everything possible to try to find treatment for their son.
To help support the Dow family, our school will be hosting a Fun Run on April 29th. We would love to have you join us!
All proceeds from both events will go toward medical, travel expenses, and experiences for the Dow Family.

The Russellville Area Chamber of Commerce will host the Eighth Annual Bash at the Ballpark at Arkansas Tech University’s Baswell Field on Saturday, April 29.
Bash at the Ballpark will have food, giveaways, bump and jumps and all sorts of family fun leading up to the 1 p.m. start of the ATU Wonder Boys game against the Harding Bisons.
Bash at the Ballpark festivities will begin at 11 a.m. with the first pitch at 1 p.m.
All youth baseball and softball players are invited to come meet the ATU Baseball team and get their autographs between 11:35 a.m. to noon.
Free t-shirts will be handed out to the first 50 kids. All participants ages 5-12 can register to win a chance to throw out the first pitch. Kids will also have the chance to run the bases after the first game of the double header.
Admission to both Bash at the Ballpark and the game will be free and open to the public.

Local plant enthusiast Beth Buckley (@bthsplnts on Instagram) is teaming up with Bang-Up Betty to host a classic plant swap. Bring one or a few of your favorite varieties of plants, already in a dirt container instead of in water (SERIOUSLY, please pot your cuttings! You can use old yogurt, applesauce or other food containers as pots, but no loose cuttings in water. You’ll be asked to leave containers with water outside to keep everyone and our shop safe), and leave with new plants and new plant-loving pals. The Coptic stitch is one of the oldest and useful book structures. It is the perfect structure for sketchbooks or travel journals as the Coptic stitch allows the books to open completely flat. This workshop is ideal for beginners, as well as those who would like to expand their range of bookbinding techniques. The workshop will cover ways to personalize covers and all participates will be given detailed written instructions so they can re-create the book at home. During the workshop, participates will complete one hardback book (4"x 5”).
$75 workshop fee includes all bookbinding materials and tools for the workshop. Students are welcome to bring their own bookbinding tools. A list of tools will be provided upon registration.
We suggest bringing a lunch or snack.

Helen Kwiatkowski (Fayetteville, AR) is a painter, bookbinder and mixed media artist. Her work has been exhibited regionally and nationally, and in 2021 she was a recipient of an Artist 3 60 Grant (a program of Mid America Arts Alliance). Prior to relocating to Fayetteville in 2019 she was tenured professor at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton, Texas where she taught Foundations, Mixed Media, and Book Arts.

Come get your creative juices flowing at the next Rolling Hills Pottery workshop held at Nexus Coffee & Creative! This workshop is for all ages!
In this workshop, Chris will demonstrate how to make mugs from coils on the banding wheel the first few minutes of class, then you will be free to make anything of your choice! You’ll also be free to make multiple items while supplies last. At the end of class, students will pick out their glaze color.
Students will get to enjoy making with clay and drink coffee by Nexus Coffee & Creative!!
This class will be held on April 29th from 2-4PM.
The fee ($80) includes tool rental, clay, and 2 kiln firings that get up to over 2200 degrees!
There is a 3-4 week processing period after class where Chris will glaze and fire your creations. They will be returned to Nexus once they are completed.

Under Pressure is a community-building educational experience demonstrating a unique and creative version of block printing rarely available to artists or the public.
Pre-registered artists will bring their prepared, carved wood blocks to Art Springs at 12 PM on 4/29, where they will ink the blocks, lay them in the street, and cover them with specialty paper to be printed under the drum of the city's 2-ton steamroller. The printing event is free to view, and the works created will be displayed at the Circle Gallery at Emergent Arts during May Gallery Walk.
This event is organized by HSACA and is made possible in collaboration with Emergent Arts, Paper Arts Dallas, and AITOH of Hot Springs.

After two-plus years of creating 30 renditions of famous paintings, Hot Springs photographer Eli Vega wrote and published a book called Renditions of Famous Paintings about his project. Most of the models live in the Hot Springs area. Now that the book is launching, Eli will share with the community what inspired him to work on this project; how he found his models, props, costumes, and venues for his renditions. Additionally, he will invite his models to talk about their involvement with Mr. Vega and his project. After the program, there will be a book signing.
Among the models used for this project include the city manager's wife, a current city director, a former city director, and an art gallery director.
