2024 Arkansas Dark-Sky Festival
Bear Creek Log Cabins
Festival Registration is finally open for the 2024 Arkansas Dark-Sky Festival!
Register here: https://darkskyarkansas.org/festival-guest-registration/
For the third year, we have a tremendous nature at night program lined up under some of Arkansas’ most natural skies, with more daytime activities than ever. Three nights and two days just outside the Buffalo National River, a DarkSky International certified park.
Our featured speaker this year is Jennifer Wiseman, originally of Mountain Home, now the senior project manager of NASA's Hubble Space Telescope.
You can register for the festival on the festival website. When you visit the site, be sure to check out the Event Guide, the Star Party Program outline, the Milky Way Photo Workshop, the Scout program, and the Celestial Workshop.
You should review the Event Guide before registering, especially if you have not attended the event before or are planning to camp onsite; campsites can be reserved during registration. You will also find links on the festival website to help you find other places to stay, eat, and other area activities.
Please be aware that we have set limits for attendance and on-site camping. Once filled, registration and camping will be closed. While you should not wait until the last minute to sign up, please don’t register unless you have actually decided to attend, as it may preclude someone else from participating.
Our team of dedicated volunteers is eagerly looking forward to sharing the wonders of nature at night, and how important it is to protect it.

About the author:
From humble beginnings that included her father's alcohol, physical, and verbal abuse, an inquisitive girl nicknamed Sassy became a notable figure in nursing at the state and national levels. A high school dropout, she earned her first nursing degree in California after her third child was born. After graduating summa cum laude from the University of Louisiana Monroe, where she taught for five years, she obtained a master’s degree from the University of Mississippi.
She moved back to Arkansas for the Director of Nursing position at Conway Regional and to be near her family in Pine Bluff. Three years later she assumed a new position at the Arkansas State Board of Nursing—the Director of Advanced Practice Nursing. Defining the APN role and prescriptive authority and the development of the ASBN Update, the first board of nursing magazine in the nation, were her major feats at the board.
She is married to Roger Lewis, former Director of Institutional Research at UCA, and lives in Conway AR.
