Chocolate Festival

2011 Highway 22 W, Dardanelle, AR

The Dardanelle Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to host the 11th Annual Chocolate Festival. On Friday, July 19th at the Carolyn M. McGee Community Center at 2011 State Hwy 22, Dardanelle, AR. The doors will open at 5pm-7pm. Tickets are available for the Chocolate Festival, for a minimum donation of $10 each, or may be purchased at the door.
What is the Chocolate Festival?
“My Mom always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.” Forrest Gump
The Chamber sponsors a fundraiser for a family in need of help with medical expenses or a cause in the community. Exhibitors promote their business or non-profit, while passing out BITE SIZE samples of chocolate. Chocolate can be homemade or store-bought. A few examples: Chocolate chipotle popcorn, chocolate dipped strawberries, grandma’s fudge and a southern favorite, chocolate gravy and biscuits.
This year’s recipient is Chris Davenport.
Chris Davenport was recently diagnosed with stage 4 liver cirrhosis caused by a fatty liver. There is no cure, and it is terminal. Chris is known by many in the community by his generous nature. For his 40th birthday party he honored all emergency personnel with a BBQ dinner. He is a Gold Medal winner with the Special Olympics. He is known for his love of beads and loves being called "Beadman". You or someone you know has probably received beads from him. He loves to bless others and has never met a stranger.
His life has been filled with obstacles. He had Spinal Meningitis at 4 1/2 months, 6 months and 1 year of age. He became blind in his left eye and his left side is weak from Meningitis. He broke his femur and was told he would never walk again and 6 weeks later he walked into the ortho doctor's office. Even with those setbacks he still lives life to the fullest. He is always smiling and loves everyone.
Sadly, Chris passed away on June 27th.
The Chocolate Festival is a good example of the heart of Dardanelle.
Together we have raised over $35,000.00 to benefit our friends and neighbors.
There is a theme for the festival which leads to friendly competition, Best Booth Decorations, Best Chocolate and Best Costume. The theme for 2024 is Chocolate Safari. Exhibitors may decorate but are not required to.

HERBAL DELIGHTS USING SUMMERTIME BOUNTY

Ozark Folk Center State Park
1032 Park Avenue, Mountain View

Meeting Place: Visitor Center Lobby

Registration Fee: $22.00

Class Fee: $100.00

Materials Fee: $30.00

Creating herbal magic is a daily occurrence for Susan Belsinger. In this class, she will share and hopefully inspire you to make some of her favorite concoctions as well as invent your own! Discover the ways of herbal alchemy and learn the difference between elixirs, electuaries, oxymels and shrubs and how they work. Then, create your own with local honey, organic apple cider vinegar, and fresh herbs. You will need to bring the following items to class: your favorite chef and paring knives, garden pruners or scissors for harvesting herbs, wooden cutting board, go-cup or jar to drink from, and a basket or box to carry your creations home. The class minimum is 4 students, maximum is 10.

This class will pique your creative imagination so that you will feel confident to create your own herbal delights. Students will see how simple it is to prepare herbal finishing salts and sugars using fresh and dried botanicals. Additionally, you will taste samples of savory pastes and condiments and prepare one to go. Next, we will make some sugar plums from dried fruits, nuts, and spices which many find ethereal. Last, you will infuse seasonal herbs with local ingredients to make some thirst-quenching, summer sippers.

The registration fee is to be paid upon sign up. The class fee is due at the start of class by cash or check. The non-refundable materials fee is to be paid in advance when you sign up to venmo or PayPal.me/susanbelsinger.

Exhibition on Screen Presents, “Sunflowers”

100 River Market Ave, Little Rock, AR

Vincent van Gogh's Sunflowers are some of the most iconic paintings in the world. This extraordinary feature-length documentary film brings the spectacular series together on screen as never seen before.

About the Film:

Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers are some of the most iconic paintings in the world. What many mistake for one masterpiece, are actually five paintings of sunflowers in vases scattered across galleries in Amsterdam, London, Munich, Philadelphia and Tokyo. This extraordinary feature-length documentary film brings the spectacular series together on screen as never seen before. Working closely with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, Sunflowers goes beyond a ‘virtual exhibition’, delving into the rich and complex stories behind each of the paintings to unveil the mysteries of the sunflowers. What did the flowers mean to Van Gogh, and why do they resonate so much with audiences today? With a striking portrayal of the artist by actor Jamie de Courcey and fascinating insights from art historians, botanists and everything in between, the film offers a unique insight into Van Gogh’s life and artwork.

Important Information:

Film Start Time: Doors open at 3:00pm, and Exhibition on Screen's "Sunflowers" will begin promptly at 4:00pm. As our films are general admission seating, please be sure to arrive early to secure your seat. Beer, wine, and concessions will be available.

Simply bring your parking ticket from the library parking lot (across from the Main Library on Rock Street) or the parking deck (next to the Main Library on Rock Street) inside the theater, and our friendly box office staff will validate it for you. Origami is the traditional Japanese art of paper folding. As the craft required few supplies, it was an art that forcibly-relocated Japanese Americans could continue to practice even after being relocated to World War II internment camps. Join museum staff on Sundays in July to learn to make increasingly difficult origami pieces. On July 21, we will be learning to fold flowers, an origami pattern of intermediate difficulty.
