Opening Reception | Susan Morrison: River Journeys

Fort Smith Regional Art Museum

Opening Reception | Susan Morrison: River Journeys
Friday, October 20, 5-7 pm
Drinks and Light Refreshments Provided
FREE

In memory of artist and friend Susan Morrison (1942-2023) Susan Morrison was an artist, author, observer, educator, and storyteller. Long before the designation came to prominence and wide usage, Morrison became an environmentalist. Using a variety of art forms as her methods, she worked to raise awareness of America’s wildlife and wildlands. Beyond awareness, her art celebrates and helps to preserve these valuable national resources. River Journeys is a collection of beautiful prints, based on her artwork of four scenic rivers in Arkansas (the Buffalo, the King, the Illinois, and the Mulberry), interwoven with Morrison’s poetry.

“First let me say that I consider my talent to be a gift from God, and with that comes an enormous responsibility. I have determined my mission is Earth Stewardship and my work is dedicated to the preservation of our wildlife and wildlands.” – Susan Morrison

This exhibition is sponsored by Merril Lynch – Lawson Hembree Group, Akib’art Gallery, Belinga Foundation, Uncork’d, First National Bank of Fort Smith, Arkansas College of Health Education, Mercy and BHC Insurance

This opening reception is held in conjunction with "ArTs at Bost: Creativity, Connection and Choices" and "Martin Peerson"

Our community works together to create a wonderful shopping experience in the beautiful Botanical Gardens that will continue for years to come.

We open applications to the public as a way to invite our community to share their talents with us and each other. Vendors will sell different products such as plants, vintage clothing, art, handmade crafts, etc. We are currently accepting vendor applications!

NWA CAMP is a group of independent Creators, Artists, Models, and Photographers local to Arkansas. We are a community creating consistent collaborative content. Our space offers unique and accessible education and performance opportunities. Through our local partnerships and mentorship programming, we promote diversity equity and inclusivity in our industry and provide representation for artists of all demographics. We are passionate about providing a safe space for artists, by artists.
NWA CAMP is one of the first ever independently led artist collectives in the Midwest. We have been operating all over North West Arkansas for over three years. Our mission is first to serve our community and to build and foster its unique talent each season. We host photo shoots, organize events, and assist behind the scenes in portfolio building, networking, and upkeep for all of the talents signed with us. Many of our models and photographers have gone on to be published, signed to larger agencies, performed at a variety of venues, and travel to walk in runways across the country. We love to highlight and celebrate our talents and the things that make us UNIQUE, hence the freaks show. It is our intention to share these talents and gifts with you all for a night you won’t forget!
Everything we do at CAMP is not for profit. We mutually consent to exchange our gifts and time in order to consistently create the best content and events in the area, launching us as a team farther than many of us have gone on our own. We receive from this organization what we put into it. We also use our talents to support the small businesses we partner with to provide affordable Branding and Marketing opportunities that allow us to have such elaborate shoots at little cost to our participants. It is our hope that the fundraising opportunities brought on by this event will create more opportunities for performers, makers, artists, and creators across NWA over the next season. We don’t believe in something for nothing, so we are very excited to welcome you to our show.
