Studio Landscape Painting
With John P. Lasater IV
Learn to add vitality to your studio landscape paintings with John P. Lasater IV. Known for his string of awards in national competitions with a staggering variety of landscape subjects, John excels at pictorial concepts, open-form painting, naturalism, sophisticated color mixing and design principles. With his years of painting and teaching experience, expect to be enlightened by his hands-on help and challenged by his lectures and demonstrations.
Teaching Objectives:
• How to choose an image that has pictorial potential
• Seeing the essence of a photo or reference
• Ways to start and sustain a landscape painting
• Creating a sense of space in a painting
• When and how to utilize atmospheric perspective
• Eyeflow in design
• Pushing harmony in the color relationships
• Wet-on-wet oil painting, and ways to use your tools
• Landscape painting in its current historical context and remaining frontiers of artistic exploration in landscape painting.

Bluffs of McCracken Hills
Arkansas Tech - Tucker Coliseum
McCracken Hills is located 12-miles north of Clarksville and west of Highway 21. This is a rock climbing area, but suitable for hikers too. There will be extra hiking involved, to access the bluffs, because the roads, at last visit, were washed out. There are some amazing bluffs and rock features down below. Access below will be down a Bear Crack and rope. I will bring my rope. The rope that exists, was a little short to reach the bottom! This hike is not for young children or novice hikers. The hike is 2.5 miles, rated moderate/difficult, with a steep hike back to our vehicle. Meet at Tucker Coliseum at 8:00 AM, with your daypack and lunch. Please Note: the last part of the access road is rough and will require high clearance vehicles to our 3-parking spots. We will probably have to park some vehicles, and shuttle folks.
