The 1800s brought many emigrants to the river valley; these pioneers had to learn to live off the land. Basket making, by using oak splits, was an important task for every pioneer. Weave your own gift basket in this hands-on class and reflect on those who lived in this area before it was a state park. Bring a sack lunch or plan to visit a local restaurant. The fee covers the cost of materials. Class size is limited, preregistration is required.

What is a screech owl’s favorite tree for daytime napping? Meet Park Interpreter Carrie to discover more about these birds of prey that make Petit Jean State Park their home. Before the evening is over, we will hike down Cedar Falls Trail and invite a few owls to come in for a visit. Please bring a flashlight for the walk out.
ROCK HOUSE CAVE HIKE

Trees are closely tied to Native American culture. Meet Park Interpreter Carrie to hike to the park’s archeology site, Rock House Cave. We will view American Indian rock art and consider what life was like at the time these images were created. This hike is ¼-mile long. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring along water.
