Beaux Arts Acadamy Awards

For more than 35 years, the River Valley Arts Center has worked to improve the understanding, appreciation and importance of the arts and especially our local artists and patrons who add so much to the quality of life and economy in the Arkansas River Valley. For the past ten years, the Arts Center has selected inductees into the Beaux Arts Academy. This prestigious award recognizing the greatest achievement in art has become one of the biggest and most memorable annual art events of the year.

Art transcends mediums from painting, sculpting, and pottery to music, literature, poetry, theater, and dance. Inductees are selected in the categories of Performing Artist, Visual Artist, Patron of the Arts, and Lifetime Achievement Award. Recipients are officially recognized at an annual awards banquet and presentation.

SLF Sand Volleyball Tournament

The weather forecast for our sand volleyball tournament is clear skies and 60 degrees...perfect for sand ball at Merritt Park. Eight teams have entered so far....still room for more. If you can't play, be sure and come out and root your favorite team! There will be BBQ and other food/drinks for sale...all proceeds go to the SLF, less the $300 winner-take-all prize for the champion team (paid for by the $30 entry fees). If you can't make it, please consider making a donation to the SLF.

Lake Dardanelle State Park is proud to offer free winter lake cruises for the best chance of seeing our national symbol, the Bald Eagle. Many other spectacular birds will be in the area for viewing including American white pelicans, ducks, and snow geese. Please dress warmly, as temperatures and winds are more severe on the lake. In an effort to accommodate as many people as possible for our tours, we will be taking reservations. Call the visitor center at (479) 967-5516 to reserve your seat. We will begin boarding 15 minutes before the tour at the boat dock near the tournament weigh-in facility. Tours are weather dependent.

The forests of Lake Dardanelle State Park are filled with many pine trees. These trees played an important role in the development of the state of Arkansas and support wildlife. They can also be used to create your own artwork. Join a park interpreter at the amphitheater to learn to make a paintbrush from the needles and then create your own masterpiece.

Take a walk through Mount Nebo State Park's history with a park interpreter! Learn about the luxurious Summit Park Hotel that burned down in 1918 and explore the Civilian Conservation Corps role in the development of Mount Nebo State Park in the 1930s on an easy walk on the road. Wear comfortable shoes.

Take a hike and see if you can find everything on Mount Nebo State Park's scavenger hunt list. Keep your eyes open, you never know what you'll spot! The park interpreter will provide the scavenger hunt list and necessary supplies. Wear sturdy footwear, and bring water.

MOUNT NEBO'S HOTEL HISTORY

Before Mount Nebo was a state park, it was home to the luxurious Summit Park Hotel that catered to the upper class. With activities that ranged from evening balls to horseback riding, it was the premiere place to spend the summer in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Join a park interpreter to explore the nooks and crannies of Mount Nebo's hotel history.

HIKE TO FERN LAKE

Fern Lake, a popular place to spend time during the Summit Park Hotel era of Mount Nebo's history, sits at the bench level of Mount Nebo. Join a park interpreter to dive into some of the history surrounding Fern Lake and the Summit Park Hotel. The hike is approximately 1 1/2-mile long and will be strenuous. Bring water and wear sturdy shoes.

BOY SCOUT TRAIL ADVENTURE
