2nd Friday Art Night - October 13

Downtown Little Rock, Arkansas

Join us for some 2nd Friday fun!

October 13th
5-8 pm: 2FAN at all your favorite participating locations

UA Little Rock Downtown: "The Art of Journaling: Responding to the World with Brush and Pen"
After retiring from a career in environmental affairs, David Paul Cook is now able to more fully devote himself to his lifelong love of art and journaling. Working with local art organizations has furthered his art, and he teaches what he knows in hopes of forging more connections between art and his community and expanding people's artistic experiences.
Funded by a grant from the Windgate Foundation.
Registration is required; to register, contact Shannon Holmes at sholmes@cals.org or 501-320-5792.

Historic Arkansas Museum will open “A Beautiful Struggle” on Friday, Oct. 13, at 5 p.m. in its Trinity Gallery for Arkansas Artists, 200 E. Third St., Little Rock. The opening coincides with the museum’s 2nd Friday Art Night and is free and open to the public.
Through mixed media paintings, artists Rashawn Penister, Justin Thomasson and Markeith Woods each draw from a deep well of lived experience to share personal stories of injustice, but they also envision communities devoted to equity, love and respect, where Black people thrive. They never shy away from the perplexing truth that life is often both extremely difficult and intensely meaningful at the same time, much like the exhibit title, “A Beautiful Struggle.”
Penister, Thomasson and Woods share elements of a common background. All three studied with renowned Arkansas artist and educator Henri Linton at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and are now educators themselves.
Penister holds a Bachelor of Science in visual arts from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and is pursuing a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Memphis.
Thomasson earned a Bachelor of Science in visual arts from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Thomasson teaches visual arts at Mills High School in Little Rock.
Woods is a visiting assistant professor in the visual arts department of Morehouse College. Woods holds a Bachelor of Science in visual arts from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He also co-curated this exhibit.
2nd Friday Art Night will also feature music from The Jellies, Arkansas-made beer from Stone’s Throw Brewing and activities on the historic grounds.

$15 Pet Microchipping Event

Bass Pro Shops
Little Rock

On October 14th from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Friends of the Animal Village will be offering $15 pet microchipping at Bass Pro Shops.

Cantrell Animal Clinic will be implanting the microchips!

No appointment is necessary, and there are no income or residency restrictions. Accepted methods of payment are cash and credit/debit card. For credit and debit card payments, a 3% service fee ($0.45 per microchip) will be added.

Petlink microchips will be used, which you must register online once for $9.99. **You MUST register the chip yourself in order for your contact info to be attached to it!** We do not do this for you.

Not familiar with pet microchips? Microchips are the size of a grain of rice and are implanted under the skin. They carry a unique id number that is linked with your contact info in the database you register them with. If your pet is ever lost and their finder takes them to an animal shelter or vet, they will be scanned for a microchip, which will lead them to your contact info. Your pet should always wear a collar with tags, but tags and collars often go missing in the midst of a big adventure.

Microchips are permanent and are the best way to ensure you can be reunited with your pet if they're ever lost.

Belleville

FREE MOVIE NIGHT EVENT

Believers Fellowship is hosting a screening of the blockbuster hit, "The Blind: The True Story of the Roberston Family" on Saturday, October 14th at 7pm. Bring your friends and family to see this powerful story of God's grace to change the entire trajectory of a family.

Long before Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson became a reality TV star, he fell in love with Miss Kay and started a family, but his demons threatened to tear their lives apart. Set in the backwoods swamps of 1960s Louisiana, THE BLIND shares never-before-revealed moments in Phil’s life as he seeks to conquer the shame of his past, ultimately finding redemption in an unlikely place. This stunning cinematic journey chronicles the love story that launched a dynasty, the turmoil that nearly brought it crashing down, and the hope that rose from the ashes to create a foundation for generations to come.
