A Glimpse into History

Founded in 1992 by the Jackson family, Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge began as a heartfelt response to a growing need for a safe haven for neglected and abused big cats. The refuge started with a handful of rescued lions and tigers and has since grown into a 459-acre sanctuary that provides a lifelong home to over 100 exotic and native animals, primarily big cats such as lions, tigers, leopards, and cougars, but also including bears, ligers, and a variety of other species.

The mission of TCWR is rooted in rescue, education, and advocacy. It aims not only to provide a safe habitat for these animals but also to educate the public about the challenges and issues surrounding the exotic pet trade and the importance of wildlife conservation.
