Arkansas Preservation Awards
Robinson Center
Join us to honor the recipients of the 2023 Arkansas Preservation Awards, including Historic Washington Foundation, recipient of the 2023 Parker Westbrook Lifetime Achievement Award.
The 2023 Arkansas Preservation Awards will take place in Little Rock on January 26, 2024, in the Still Ballroom of the Robinson Center at 426 W. Markham St. Historic Washington Foundation will be honored along with ten additional recipients in categories ranging such as Heritage Preservation, Rehabilitation, Restoration, Education, and more.
Tickets for the event are $150 each; table sponsorships and patron tickets are also available. For a complete list of recipients and to reserve your seats, please visit our website. Seating is limited; please reserve by January 19, 2024.
Named in honor of Preserve Arkansas’s founding president, the Parker Westbrook Award for Lifetime Achievement recognizes significant achievements in historic preservation over a period of years. The award may be presented to individuals, organizations, businesses, or public agencies whose activities may be of local, statewide, or national importance. The 2023 Parker Westbrook Award for Lifetime Achievement goes to the Historic Washington Foundation.
For sixty-five years, Historic Washington Foundation (formerly Pioneer Washington Restoration Foundation) has been a leader in organized preservation efforts in Arkansas. With its incorporation in 1958, it became the first historic preservation organization in the state. In addition, the Foundation has been directly involved in the preservation of more historic structures than any other preservation organization in Arkansas. Besides its direct preservation work,
Historic Washington Foundation (HWF) was instrumental in having the Washington Historic District listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. The Foundation also worked to create Old Washington Historic State Park (now Historic Washington State Park), which opened in 1973 to partner with HWF in preserving and interpreting the town, a partnership that remains strong today. In 1975, Parker Westbrook, a native of nearby Nashville, Arkansas, and an ardent preservationist, was elected to the Foundation board. He remained actively involved, eventually serving as volunteer executive director, for more than thirty years. Now, in recognition of its ground-breaking work in historic preservation in Arkansas, it is fitting for the organization he served to receive the Parker Westbrook Award.

Lunar Landing
1413 E Main St, Clarksville
Their hearts will be pounding as they feel it in their skull, pounding violently as they inch closer to the door at 10,500 feet. Their hands will be covered in fabric but still shaking as they grab onto the strut of the plane. Their breath will look as if they are made from dragon's blood itself. Their feet will tremble as they extend their leg trying for the step. Their formation will be solid. Their form will be superb. Then all will fall silent, except for the roar of wind near their ears. No engine can be heard. No one talking. No dogs barking at them. Utter silence until they make their pattern for landing back at the airport, under the light of the full moon.
The skydivers landing area will only be lit by lights on their vehicles and the runway as they plan their approach.
To some, it will look like meteors or UFO's when staring at the red, green, and strobe lights heading towards the airport at 130 mph. To our skydiving community, it's just what we do.
Bring your blanket and chair and watch as skydivers fall through the dark sky above Clarksville. Homemade hot cocoa will be provided to any guest that would like to witness this event.
Must have a B Rating.
Red, Green, & Strobe light required.
Gear check required, AAD on.
S&TA will give pre flight info (do's & do not's).
Dress accordingly for weather.

INN AND OUT: A HIKE DOWN WILL APPLE'S ROAD
Mount Magazine State Park
16878 AR-309, Paris
Meeting Place: Visitor Center
Admission: Free
Journey with a park interpreter down historic Will Apple’s Road, a pathway that felt more hooves than tires in its heyday. At the end of this trail, you will witness the ruins of what was once a refreshing spring-fed swimming pool, Buckman’s Pool. The spur which reaches Buckman’s Pool is short but steep and moderately strenuous with uneven terrain. Seasonally appropriate attire, drinking water, sturdy hiking shoes, insect repellent, and sunscreen (although this hike is very shaded), are all highly recommended.
